I was greeted by the fresh, crisp, cool air and wished I had on my long sleeve running shirt, but I had only brought one and plan to run longer tomorrow. I set right into a jog and everything around me came to life. A rabbit ran for cover. As I rounded the bend, I came upon a large pack of big brown geese who were splashing into the water after I startled them. Some morning birds were out for their morning worm.
I ran the loop around the hotel property, which had to be just under a mile. So I ran it three and a half times (to make sure I at least got a 3 mile run). On the way around, I kept passing the sole "mountain" that looked like a very small, grass-covered volcano jutting right out of the ground. This was, in the winter, the local ski lift. With only one lift. I wondered if they would shoo me away if I ventured to climb it. I think I'll make that my goal tomorrow. I think I'll run 2 or 3 laps and then climb up that thing and then back down. It is steep enough to present a real challenge, but short enough that it shouldn't take me all day. It's 205ft high.
They don't use it for mountain biking in the summer... probably because it would take less than a minute to get from top to bottom. Most likely, you could race down in less than 20 seconds. Not much of a thrill.
Oconomowoc is a quaint city. I decided to check out the website for the city and found this on their "tourism" page:
From a quiet weekend retreat for two, to the glamour and excitement of a national convention for 1,000, Oconomowoc has the facilities to meet your needs. But the charm of this unique part of Wisconsin only starts there.
Now, I don't know about you, but I don't really find conventions to be glamourous or exciting... especially if they were to be held in Oconomowoc.
I did find this link to pictures of Oconomowoc:
It has only one picture. In the last 14 months, this picture has been viewed 247 times and rated by 3 voters. It's a sleepy little town.
Carl and I did make it back to The Golden Mast. It's a nice looking restaurant with large windows overlooking the lake, and stained glass windows, and a huge moose head staring over your shoulder while you're having dinner. Carl and I both had the special. For $23.50 you could have the filet and lobster with the side dishes. Carl had the salad and mashed potatoes. I opted for the soup and mashed potatoes.
I had to try the soup. I've never had "trout & asparagus soup". It tasted exactly as it sounds.
Trout and Asparagus soup...was dessert Haddock and beet ice cream? Enjoy!
