We has a wonderful breakfast this morning... my favorite, taquitos! I had potato and chorizo (save the eggs for another day).
After breakfast, we decided to go stock up on groceries and headed to H.E.B. H.E.B. is the "Publix" of Texas, but it's very much like being in a foreign country. About 99% of the people speak Spanish - only. Then, you know when you are out of place when you ask one of the employees if they carry "Hummus" and they ask "What's that... cheese"?
And this you would see only in Texas... next to the Bosc pears and the Bartlett pears were - what
else - the prickly pears!
We bought some prickly pears that were already peeled and ready to eat. But they are so full of little seeds that you don't really get anything good out of them. They say the seeds are edible, but they are so hard I'm afraid I'd break a tooth.
For dinner, we went to a restaurant called Acadiana. This restaurant is typical of the style of food in this part of Texas.
First, a Texas-sized iced tea
Next, one of the best fried catfish dinners with a side of fried okra, and crawfish etoufee!!
Good thing I worked out this morning... 3 mile run, then a 40 minute walk with Mom.
