Last night, Tim and I went to the home of some friends for a little July 4th celebration. They live in a home on the intercoastal waterway in Indian Rocks Beach. It was a nice little gathering, mostly hanging out outside at their pool and having a few drinks. I stuck to just Powerade since I was already so hot. I just can't imagine having a beer in the heat of the day!
We took a six-pack of beer to the party and I made a huge batch of my guacamole sauce. I can't believe it got cleaned out!!
The plans were to party at the house for a while, then go out on a boat to watch the fireworks. But Tim and I were so tired that we left a little after 8pm. We both wanted to be in early so we could get out to train early tomorrow before the real heat set in. We didn't even watch any fireworks!
I wanted to get out a little earlier, but enjoyed sleeping in a little later than usual, and I was out the door a little after 7am. I got in a 5.75 mile run. Although I felt surprisingly good during the run, I was sweatier than I can remember. It was hot and humid out there!! My run ended out taking 1 hour... because I kept stopping to talk to friends. Oh well... it was still a good training day.
Then, Tim came over and we watched Stage 2 of the Tour de France. We love this time of year! The finish was really, really exciting! Later, we watched the Hy Vee Triathlon that also had a spectacular finish, with one of the triathletes literally diving for the finish line. It was sooooo close.
We topped off the evening with a nice dinner and some HBO (What Happens in Vegas). Dinner was grilled T-bone steaks (Mmmmm Mmmmm GOOD), mangos with soy sauce, grilled pineapple, and a salad.
Now I'm fat, dumb, and happy!
Your 4th sounds similar to mine ... no fireworks for me or Meredith. Nick and Sam went to watch them after we had a good dinner of grilled flank steak with grilled zukes, peppers and onions plus green beans with sesame-miso dressing (p. 420, Japanese Cooking, A Simple Art - i know you have it because i gave it to you). I just did not have the energy to deal with crowds at a fireworks display, and I have been fighting off a sinus infection or a cold or something, too. I've been trying to rest as much as I can this weekend because I have to drive to Boston with Sam and Laffy and Laffy's mom on Wednesday, back on Sunday. This will be Junior Chowder Cup, a hockey showcase tournament, where there will be a lot of college coaches and scouts. I do NOT want to be sick on the road this week!
ReplyDeleteMy head is still spinning from reading yesterday's story about your bike!! Bummer!! On the other hand, that's a pretty sweet-looking replacement you've picked out ... enjoy it!
